The Third Crusade 1189-1192

The Crusade Two kings and an emperor, King Philip I of France, Richard I of England, and Emperor Barbarossa of Germany, lead the Third Crusade with the permission of the Pope. Richard I acquired money for the Crusade in the way of stealing from Jewish people, raising taxes, and selling property. Barbarossa's army was extremely large, so large they had to journey through the Asia Minor instead of the Mediterranean Sea. His army was very prosperous and had attained Inconcium, along with the capital of Sultanate of Rum. Matters turned bad turn when the Emperor died from drowning because his armor was too heavy.

"We, however, place the love of God and His honour above our own and above the acquisition of many regions"-Richard I of England
A large Percentage of his army abandoned the journey after he died, except for the portion his son controlled. King Philip I tried sieging Acre, but Saladin was so powerful he couldn't until Richard I came later on. Philip I was marching to Jerusalem to attack, when attacked by Saladin's army. Philip's army won the battle because of the Knights Templar and Hospitallers. Later Philip I and Saladin both agreed to the terms of treaty which stated that Jerusalem would continue to be under Muslim control, but would allow christians within the city.
